Awards & Selections

The film's journey and success were highlighted by the various awards and screenings it received.

The biographical documentary has been selected and has won numerous awards globally, including Best Documentary at the Caribbean Sea International Film Festival in Venezuela. It was nominated for the DART International Awards in Barcelona, Spain, and won the Los Angeles Film and Documentary Award. It also received the Best Documentary award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival and the Best Biography award at the Fifth Literature in Cinema Festival.

DELA was honored with the INFLUX Film Awards for Best Director of a Biographical Film, a Remi Award Winner for WorldFest-Houston 56, and selected at the Luanda International Pan African Film Festival. The music in the film was recognized and nominated for the prestigious Silver Pine Award in Best Picture (Feature-length) category, at the International Sound in Film Festival (ISIFMF) in Croatia. For directing, Oyiza Adaba won the Best Director of a Biographical Film at the Best Actor & Director Awards - New York

Significant Achievements and Lifetime Achievement Award 

DELA was selected and screened at the International Black Star Int’l Film Festival, where Prof El Anatsui was honored in person with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This award stood out the most for the team because it was recognized on the home front in Ghana, allowing Ghanaians to see and appreciate the man and the film. Another significant award was the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Nigeria, where DELA won Best Documentary. These two home-based awards in Ghana and Nigeria were particularly meaningful to the team.


International Screenings and Recognitions 

DELA’s North America premiere was held at the iconic Lincoln Center in New York at the African International Film Festival. In Nigeria, it premiered at African Int’l Film Festival AFRIFF in Lagos,and also won the best documentary Award at the Abuja International Film Festival. The film has traveled to Mumbai, India, Haiti, Denmark, and several other countries, including France and the UK where it screened at Festival International du Film PanAfricain de Cannes and Film Africa respectively. These international recognitions and screenings were a source of pride and appreciation for the team.

DELA CAMPUS TOUR

 
 

DELA: Campus Tour takes place in Ghana, Nigeria and the United States in 2025. It is targeted toward bringing the film closer to institutions such as El Anatsui’s alma mater in Ghana, the top 5 art Universities in Nigeria and relevant colleges and art institutions in the United States. These screenings allow for closer engagement with crew, students and staff.
